Keely Hodgkinson Wraps Up Campaign with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson concluded her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.
"The environment at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive meet filled the stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the victors with their tiaras.
Last year's winners received $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The competition also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
